Who Generally Receives Government Grants For Women?
Unfortunately just because you are a woman does not mean you will automatically qualify for a grant. There are many more criteria that you need to meet, such as having a specific need, or living in a certain area. There are many thousands of free Government grants for women that are available, but do not be fooled into thinking that finding one will be easy. To find out if you qualify, the easiest option is to find a non profit agency that is set up to help women. They will know the grants that are available and whether or not you qualify. You can look on the Government’s own website at Grants.gov, but unless you are familiar with it, it is easy to get lost and disheartened.
The Federal Government has a wide base of grants that it offers to women all around the world. They are generally offered to non profit organisations that help women rather than to the women themselves however. Examples of such grants include: development of new programs relating to HIV/AIDS education for women at risk or those living with the disease; implementation of activities to ensure gender based violence is abandoned – aimed at Africa and Asia; to encourage community based organisations to assist in projects that will improve the employment and training etc of women in the construction industry; starting of new community business centers for women that will offer training and mentoring to women owned small businesses; and development of a retirement planning program for women.
As you can see, most of the available Federal Government grants for women are not directly open to individuals. The organisations that can apply for them, must usually be non profit and financially stable entities. They will generally have been doing good work in the community for at least 3 years. They will need to show evidence of how and how many women they have helped in the past. If you control such an organisation, you are well placed to received grant monies. Either start investigating how to proceed through the grant application process or hire someone to help you.
