Buying penny stocks seems to be popular for a lot of investors wanting to make quick money. True enough, it is possible that you can make good money investing in stocks. But if it were easy, everyone would be making fortunes.  Obviously the real challenge is how to know which penny stocks to buy and which ones to avoid.

Of course, it pays to do some research before you buy any company’s stocks but most of the time you will find little or no information about the company. That is because the companies who are offering penny stocks usually have a troubled track record and poor financial health.

Research and More Research
One of the best things that you can do when you are thinking about buying penny stocks is to research the company you are thinking of investing in. However, it can get really frustrating since most of the companies in the pink sheets, or where penny stocks are traded, do not have a lot of information about them readily available.  As result you might have to spend a lot of time and effort just to find handful of good companies.  But don’t let the deter you, adequate research is very necessary requirement in choosing penny stocks.

Beware the Scams
A common challenge with buying penny stocks is to realize which are the legitimate companies and what’s just a scheme to scrape some money off you. There are several ways fraudsters use to separate you from your money and one of them is biased recommendations. There are some companies who sell penny stocks and pay individuals to promote and recommend the stock in newsletters, newsgroups, television shows and radio shows. You may have already received spam mail trying to convince you to purchase a certain stock. Obviously these emails, recommendations and postings should not be taken seriously.

At the end of the day, you are the one who’ll need to determine whether a particular penny stock has significant potential or whether it’s next weeks toilet paper.  Yes, it’s daunting work performing technical and fundamental analysis, but if you can find that one highly profitable penny stock, it will all be worth it.
