Day trading for a living is something many people dream of. Unfortunately it is going to stay a dream for the most of us. The fact is that day trading is probably one of the most competitive branches in the world. The competition is very high, which is not so difficult to understand when you consider how much money there is in this field.

Day trading means buying and selling in a very short perspective. Normal traders hold their positions for weeks, months or even years. Day traders hold them for about one day at maximum. While normal traders do about one trade per week, a day trader do three to five per day.

Most day traders choose to sell their positions before the day is over. That way they have no positions over night. The advantage with this is that the risk of loosing money over night is gone. It is quite normal that the price for one stock starts at a different price as it closed with the day before. This can of course also be used to an advantage. If a trader now or believe that a stock is going to rise during the night, he will buy close before closure and sell it directly at the opening the next day.

The biggest problem for day traders is the lack of discipline. They start day trading without enough experience from trading. When they realize that they are losing money, they close the position directly. That way they have definitely lost money. Often it is advisable to wait, because the price is going to rise again. But to know this you have to have a large experience in trading. And you have to be disciplined.

Day trading for a living will probably at the best stay a dream for most of us.

One of the most important things that you can ever do with your money is to invest it. Most people, by the time they retire will be broke and will depend on some form or government help or family help. This isn’t a situation you want to be in if you can help it. In order to prevent this from happening, you will need to start being smarter with your money and make a plan right away that will give you a chance at a good retirement.

There are many types of investments you can make. One such type is to purchase structured settlements. This is where you basically buy payments that are being made to someone who got it from a settlement such as a lawsuit or through a divorce for example. The reason they are getting payments varies but the way you will benefit from it is to buy their future payments at a discounted price. Now why would someone sell you payments that are coming into them for less than what the total is worth? The reason can vary but the main thing is that the seller wants a lump sum of cash instead of having to wait forever to get the whole amount. Obviously, once you get this investment, you won’t be getting a lump sum either unless you sell it to someone else.

The benefit of purchasing structured settlement is that you will have money coming into your bank account periodically. This will help you control your money and prevent you from over spending which is one of the reasons why structured settlements exist in the first place. Before you buy something like this though, do your research first. There is a ton of information online. With any investment, it’s good to know exactly what you are doing.

The US equities markets are changing, and changing in a big way.

Although volumes are ballooning, you may be surprised to learn that average order sizes are actually getting smaller. The average order placed on the New York Stock Exchange is now just about half the size it was five years ago.

Why is this?

The reason can be put down in large part to the growth of high frequency trading, where orders are submitted electronically into the market at high speed by proprietary trading firms looking to capture multiple small, short-term profits.

In order for high frequency trading strategies to be effective, the orders they submit have to be small enough to skim best bid and offer prices without adversely moving the markets. And to counter these high frequency trading activities, institutional fund managers (who are usually on the other side of the trades) have to chop their big block orders up into smaller and smaller chunks so that they don’t “show their hand”.

Put all of that together and you will see why, despite the massive growth in the number of shares traded, order sizes continue to get smaller.

However, according to the folks at the High Frequency Trading Review, one of the downsides to this paradigm is the resultant increase in overall trading costs, particularly the post-trade costs. Clearing and settlement costs are generally calculated on a per trade basis, so obviously it is going to cost substantially more to clear and settle ten trades fo a thousand shares each than it would for one trade of ten thousand shares.

The cost implications to the wider market that have come about with the growth of high frequency trading is just one of the many issues being addressed by the SEC in its latest consultation paper, which seeks to comprehensively review the US equities, futures and options markets.

The concern is that the playing field has become increasingly uneven. The SEC is seeking to implement far-reaching regulations to bring greater equilibrium to the markets’ structure.

Public comment on the consultation paper is due by April.

Ready to buy a home and have just a small budget? You are in luck, even with a limited budget. Lenders have homes for sale in great areas that feature family-like living. These homes now owned by lenders have been foreclosed upon.

These bank owned homes make great homes for people who have a limited amount of money to use to buy a home for themselves. These homes are in nice areas with good schools and friendly neighborhoods. These areas are good for a family. A foreclosed home is a home that someone else lost for some reason. The old owner may have lost his job and could not pay for the house. The bank took the house back. Financial institutions and banks are not in the house business and do not want to own these homes long. Banks earn their money by charging interest. The lender has lost a lot of money on the house because of what the old owner owed to them.

There are many ways to find these wonderful bargains. You can look on the internet or by searching the newspapers and the areas you want to live for real estate signs. Online there are links to companies that work in the foreclosure market and to banks and the homes they want to sell. A company specializing in foreclosures has great rates and great prices on the houses they need to sell.

Although there is no way to help people who have had a home foreclosed upon and people going through this process, you can benefit from the situation. You can buy your dream home, at a great price, and create the lifestyle you want for your family.
Buying bank foreclosed homes is just like buying any other house. You apply for a loan, you have to be approved, and you will have to pay interest and the closing costs to get the loan. A home that has been foreclosed upon may need some more legal work. It is in your best interst to have your own attorney.

The old homeowner left the foreclosed home either by choice or by force because he could no longer pay for it. You will have a wide variety of choices. As mentioned in the bank foreclosed homes guide, these homes come in all styles, sizes and types. The list of foreclosures from the banks have homes from one to five bedrooms, apartments, industrial, retail and commercial units. There are even vacation homes, luxury home and huge mansions. The list of foreclosed homes from the bank may have the home of your dreams on it. Take a look.

The world of investment banking is by far the most cut throat in terms of job industries in the world. Employees are asked to put in painstaking hours (although for good reward) and travel non stop. A career in investment banking usually begins at an ivy league university such as Harvard, Cornell, Princeton etc. and requires that the student maintains a very high GPA as well as gets involved with extra curricular activities while on campus, AND the applicant is expected to partake in internships as much as possible.

Once the student is a senior in college the job application process to one of the big investment banking firms, such as Goldman Sachs, begins. It generally involves several essays, letters of recommendation, transcripts etc. Breaking into the world is not easier, and staying inside of it can be even harder.
Investment Banking Careers are generally short lived by the employees for any number of reasons but in general it revolves around the hours put in. It is common practice to stay in the investment banking industry for a period of 2-5 years and then begin to branch out into other financial practices.
What is investment banking exactly you ask? Well the simplest form of investment banking is the setup of an IPO (initial public offering) for a company that is looking to go public on the new york stock exchange. This process involves valuing a company, as well as trying to determine what an open share price could be. Once this information has been obtained it is the investment bankers job to take the company public at the highest possibly share price.

The reason you hear people talk about Google or other tech companies higher ups becoming millionaires on paper when their companies go public is for this precise reason. They are the largest share holders, and own thousands and thousands of shares. Therefore when the company goes public at $100 a share, they become rich. Their are many other aspects of investment banking, but the IPO is the most common practice.

Nobody wants to be in debt and nobody wants to have bad credit. When you’re in debt, it feels like you’re weighed down by monthly finance charges, minimum payments, and what seems like a hole you can’t get out of because making those minimum payments just isn’t cutting it. When you have poor credit, then you’re unable to get a good loan, a good car loan, or even a solid mortgage. You either are rejected or are left paying very high interest rates and extra fees, because you have poor credit. Although it isn’t the best situation, it is in the bank’s best interest to charge higher fees and interest rates because of your poor credit history.

But, all is not lost. If you start instating some solid bad credit financial planning tips, you’ll be able to get out of debt and fix your bad credit. The first thing you need to do is to look at your credit report. You’ll want to make sure that there aren’t any errors or mistakes in there. If there’s any incorrect missed payments, or duplicate entries on an account that you did miss payments on, either of those things can mess up your credit. Call the credit agency and get that fixed.

You’ll also want to make sure that you don’t miss any more payments. Your credit report can show up to 48 months, and so if you miss any payments, it can be 4 years until that’s erased. It’s best to pay down your debt as much as you can. If that means getting a second job part-0time or some other job on the side, then do it, and put all of that money towards your debt. As your debt begins to get paid off, and you’re not missing payments, then your credit score will increase. After about 2 years, your debt will be a lot lower, and your credit score will have increased and you’ll be in a much better financial situation then you are now.

Unfortunately just because you are a woman does not mean you will automatically qualify for a grant. There are many more criteria that you need to meet, such as having a specific need, or living in a certain area. There are many thousands of free Government grants for women that are available, but do not be fooled into thinking that finding one will be easy. To find out if you qualify, the easiest option is to find a non profit agency that is set up to help women. They will know the grants that are available and whether or not you qualify. You can look on the Government’s own website at Grants.gov, but unless you are familiar with it, it is easy to get lost and disheartened.

The Federal Government has a wide base of grants that it offers to women all around the world. They are generally offered to non profit organisations that help women rather than to the women themselves however. Examples of such grants include: development of new programs relating to HIV/AIDS education for women at risk or those living with the disease; implementation of activities to ensure gender based violence is abandoned – aimed at Africa and Asia; to encourage community based organisations to assist in projects that will improve the employment and training etc of women in the construction industry; starting of new community business centers for women that will offer training and mentoring to women owned small businesses; and development of a retirement planning program for women.

As you can see, most of the available Federal Government grants for women are not directly open to individuals. The organisations that can apply for them, must usually be non profit and financially stable entities. They will generally have been doing good work in the community for at least 3 years. They will need to show evidence of how and how many women they have helped in the past. If you control such an organisation, you are well placed to received grant monies. Either start investigating how to proceed through the grant application process or hire someone to help you.

Now, you can join the millions of people trading stock options.
If you have ever considered trading stock options, then you know it can seem like a daunting take to understand everything. There’s tons of confusing terminology such as “theta, delta, strike price, put, call, straddle, strangle” and a lot more. The options market is fairly new to the stock market. Options started trading in 1973 when some smart people discovered a new way to invest a little bit of money now and make a lot later if the market moved in the direction they expected. In 2007 over 3 billion option contracts were traded. A lot of people use this method today.
Trading stock options is simple. You think the stock of a certain company is going to go up or down. You want to make money if you are right. You are willing to invest a small amount of money now to see if you are right. So you find someone who has some stock of this company and offer them a little bit of money for the right to buy or sell that stock by a specific day in the future in exchange for a contract.
If you are right, by the time you buy or sell the stock at todays price, you have earned a profit. If you are wrong, you do not buy or sell the stock. The contract expires and you are just out the option fee.
Trading stock options is just like buying or selling stock. You still need to do the research on the company and the market. You do the same analysis that you would do anyway. Just instead of buying or selling the stock, you buy an option to buy or sell that stock.
You can also be right in trading stock options and not make any money or make a small amount of money. By the time you exercise your option, the market move may be over or nearly over.
Stock options trading is more about your ability to read the company and the market than it is about trading stock options just for the sake of the actual option. If you have done your research and discovered a trading system that works for you most of the time, you will be successful. Trading stock options is another way to make money, sometimes a lot of money, in the stock market. Good luck!

In Western society, we greatly admire entrepreneurs. These are people who drive the economy and provide jobs to others while making a comfortable living for themselves as well. However, some people unfortunately have to face the facts that they are not entrepreneurial material. It might be rewarding both on a personal and financial level but it takes a lot of work to get a business up and running as well.

While some might not have the business acumen to start their own company, they can still fulfill their dream by owning a business by being an investor on the sideline. To do this, you don’t need millions of dollars to be an angel investor or a venture capitalist. You can start out small by being an individual investor in the stock market. People tend to forget that by buying shares of a company, you do in essence own a bit of the company. For some strange reason, people don’t often see it this way.

Realistically, how many people do you know that buy a business and then sell their business a few days or months later? I would imagine not many. Therefore, why do people do the same thing on the stock market instead of channeling their efforts into buying long term stocks in the first place? Even though you might have picked some stock winners, it might not be evident until years down the line. Sometimes the share price of a perfectly run company can lag until investors figure out that hidden gems.

So you can become a business owner in a sense by being a shareholder of a company. The best part of it is that you just need to do proper research and figure out the right companies to buy at a good price. For some, this is an even better scenario because there are no hassles associated with running an actual business.

If all you feel you need to learn is the stock market 101 basics then you should probably just invest in an index fund and call it good. It is difficult to justify the time of investing for yourself when you have no focus because your returns will be lucky to only meet average. When you invest for yourself you have some hurdles to overcome. .

The Hurdles

Most of the hurdles simply involve economies of scale. When you are buying so few shares at a time (relative to a large mutual fund) you pay more in commissions and you don’t get the best prices on the market trade. Also, you don’t have access do dedicated traders for very local price optimization, researchers to catch obvious issues in specific trades, or simply enough returns to pay yourself for your time of doing all the work yourself.

When you only learn the stock market from a couple of simple books you can’t expect anything more significant than the average.

The Solution

The answer is to specialize in the stock market with another skill you’ve acquired over your life. The market is big enough to encompass all types of skill sets. If you’re very good with patterns look at pattern trading. If you have been in manufacturing your whole life than invest in manufacturing companies. You will have more insight than the average stock market researcher giving you the edge. Many great investors only focus on one aspect of investing. Very few try to manage penny stocks, options, blue chips, bonds, and the FOREX all by themselves.

Remember, investing isn’t about mimicking the pros. It’s about making the most money from your money possible. If the most money possible involves someone else managing your money so you can keep working that’s OK too. There is no right way, however there is a best way for you to invest.
