Christian Health Insurance
The concept of Christian Health Insurance is an interesting one, and it takes many different forms. One form of Christian health insurance is actually not insurance at all. Instead, it is a bill-sharing cooperative that pays a high percentage of medical claims after paying a minimal deductible. In this way it is very similar to traditional insurance. However, because it is a voluntary, cost-sharing program it cannot be considered insurance.
There are several different organizations that sponsor this type of cost-sharing for medical bills. One major requirement for becoming a member of a Christian bill-sharing co-operative is a clean standard of living. The participant may not use tobacco products or drink excessively, must not engage in sexual relations outside of traditional Christian marriage, must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be a member of a Bible-believing church, and must believe the Biblical directive that his body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, thus respecting and taking care of his body accordingly. While these requirements may seem stringent, they not only make for a healthier pool of participants, but they also encourage Christians to live according to the principles of their religion with the added incentive of not having to share the cost of higher premiums for members who are living an unhealthy lifestyle that is in conflict with their Christian faith.
There are significant discounts given for participants who have healthy HbA1c levels, a lower Body Mass Index or a specified weight/waist measurement. The bill-sharing co-operative doesn’t fall under health insurance regulations, since it is an alternative to traditional health insurance. However, many of the larger bill-sharing co-operatives have been operating for years with much success and a proven track record.
If you’re in the market for Christian Health insurance, a medical bill-sharing co-operative may provide the answer to your really cheap insurance policy needs.
