The Federal Government has a wide base of grants that it offers to women all around the world. They are generally offered to non profit organisations that help women rather than to the women themselves however. Examples of such grants include: development of new programs relating to HIV/AIDS education for women at risk or those living with the disease; implementation of activities to ensure gender based violence is abandoned – aimed at Africa and Asia; to encourage community based organisations to assist in projects that will improve the employment and training etc of women in the construction industry; starting of new community business centers for women that will offer training and mentoring to women owned small businesses; and development of a retirement planning program for women.

As you can see, most of the available Federal Government grants for women are not directly open to individuals. The organisations that can apply for them, must usually be non profit and financially stable entities. They will generally have been doing good work in the community for at least 3 years. They will need to show evidence of how and how many women they have helped in the past. If you control such an organisation, you are well placed to received grant monies. Either start investigating how to proceed through the grant application process or hire someone to help you.

These women can be of any group be it a minority or not. The real aim of providing these as grants for small business is that the women can be independent as well as they are able to compete with men on equal footing.  

The main of these grants is to help the budding women entrepreneur and help them achieve what have dreamed of.  

Traditionally women were in charge of the household and they never ventured outside of the house. That is still true in a lot of minorities and ethnic groups. A lot of state government grants as well as organizations provide grants to help the women come out of this mode and be financially independent. In fact, women as business minded persons would definitely make better entrepreneurs as they have been managing the household finances for long and also have better people management skills.
